This section of the Twin Coast Cycle Trail is the most picturesque  and we have designed an accommodation and one day bike ride package getaway.

This is for those of you who may not want a two day ride and are keen to experience riding the best and most scenic parts of the trail . This leaves the balance of your stay free to explore the Hokianga region.

Either arrive by car direct to the Horeke Hotel, or we can arrange a shuttle from nearby Kerikeri airport.

All rooms have their own en-suite bathrooms.

Evening meals are self catered in this package, or you can opt for us to cook for you in the Hotel restaurant and enjoy local fresh pan fried snapper selected from our menu, and revel in  the sunsets and the tranquility of the Hokianga Harbour.

Breakfast is a selection of cereals, toast, fruit, tea or coffee . When you are ready we arrange a quick meeting to discuss with you what to expect on the ride, then shuttle you and your bikes to Okaihau  to start your ride to Horeke.

This section of the twin coast cycle trail is 32km and usually takes from 3 to 3.5 hours before you arrive back at the hotel.

The gradient is mainly downhill, with no real serious inclines to speak of. It’s a great ride .

The Hotel supplies you with a picnic lunch to take with you to enjoy on your ride. We suggest a great spot is at Snow`s farm by the river.  There are picnic tables, toilets and a place to stretch your legs.

Here you can check out Snow`s shed full of old farm implements and tractors.

When you complete your ride, the remainder of the day can be your own to enjoy.

You may want to visit the Wairere Boulders or the Historic Wesleyan Mission Station at Mangungu. The interesting landforms of the Wairere Boulders is 4km from the Hotel ( see

You can walk the boulders ( from 1 to 2 hours ) and if you want you can hire kayaks and paddle back to the Hotel. Wairere Boulders also offer a guided night time walk and if you do this walk you are able to visit next day when you are entitled to free entry.

The Wesleyan Mission Station at Mangungu is open from Noon to 4pm daily over summer, at other times by arrangement.

The mission was established in 1828 and is the site of the single largest signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. Adjacent to the mission is New Zealand`s oldest European cemetery.

On your second full day, you may not want to ride the trail as there are lots of other things to do.

You may choose to explore the Hokianga Harbour on the launch “Ranui”. All aboard for a history tour / pub crawl of the upper Hokianga visiting Kohukohu and Rawene and returning to Horeke. (see

You may like to explore the Hokianga yourself and Hire one of our Kayaks, Try fishing for your own fresh snapper and if you are lucky to land a fish, our chef will cook it for you and serve it to you in the restaurant.

You may choose to smoke your fish in our outdoor smoke house and eat it hot smoked on the deck washed down with a cold ale.

There are also other walking options.

Puketi Forest is 10km away and has a number of walking tracks available for your use, Puketi Forest has guided day or night time walks also.(see
